UWB Bowtie Antenna for Medical Microwave Imaging Applications

This work presents a design and experimental validation of compact ultrawideband (UWB) bowtie antenna balanced-to-unbalanced (balun) circuit for medical microwave imaging (MWI) applications working in the frequency band 1–6 GHz. The UWB balun is perpendicularly attached to planar arms, whose dimensions were miniaturized by rounding edges. reflection coefficient was lower than −12 dB tissues with higher water content. possesses high radiation efficiency (over 80%) very low backward radiation. predicted measured specific absorption rate (SAR) distributions together electric field $\vert E\vert $ distribution proved symmetrical pattern. potential presented element demonstrated successful reconstruction images from data MWI methods. For this purpose, an system equipped eight antennas implemented. radar approach used determine region interest (ROI) where area tomography identified. dielectric properties within ROI reconstructed using Born approximation method at 1 confirmed that can be as basis more accurate multifrequency systems implemented hybrid systems.
